Runners are making their way across America for a singular goal to raise money for the victims in April’s Boston bombing attack in the One Run For Boston race.

The first ever non-stop cross-country relay race kicked off at Venice Beach Friday morning with groups of runners passing off a baton 3,300 miles in 300 different stages across the country until it reaches Boston.

According to LA Weekly, the idea of the relay was spawned by three friends from the United Kingdom – Kate Treleaven, Danny Bent and Jamie Hay. So far, the One Run For Boston event has raised over $40,000 towards the One Fund Boston and has over 800 runners participating in the run over 14 states.

“One Run for Boston is a chance for runners to come together and show solidarity in a really dynamic way. It’s a chance to be part of something remarkable, to demonstrate the strength of the human spirit and send a powerful message of support to the city of Boston and those whose lives were changed on April 15,” Treleaven told LA Weekly.

To join in the cause, you can sign up on the One Run For Boston site for an entry fee of $25 for group stages and $50 for individual stages that is all donated to the fund. Even if you aren’t a runner, you can still make a difference by making a donation to the cause here.

The One Run For Boston relay wraps up in Boston on Sunday, June 30th. You can watch the progress of the runners via a live map tracking every step of the way.
